Duality: Light and Matter

A Recent Dream

Iā€™m in the attic when I notice that there is a huge gap in the wall. Through the gap, out on a terrace, there is a barn-like structure with worn wooden beams at haphazard angles. Hay is everywhere ā€” on the ground and in the air. Beams of light come through the chaos, and shine on the suspended particles that look as if some of the solid wood has evaporated. Everything is glowing.

Light

The moving particles catch the light.

Matter

The solidity of the beams.

I intended to merge these two ideas in one painting: the solidity of the wood with the ethereal quality of the light and the particles. But they seemed to want to be separate. Maybe someday.
