London Work: Cecil Collins Class

Cecil Collins Class (1978-80)

Cecil’s class was all about touch. The softness or strength with which the pen or brush touched the paper. The feel of the ink being absorbed or the conte crayon being caught by the fibers of the paper. How we were touched by the music he played while we were drawing the model. The way, while the music was playing, he would have us touch the model from afar, have us actually move our hands in the air along the shape of the model’s body - not in an analytical way, but like a dance.
